Food waste like you cannot believe

You will be shocked! To know how much good food is wasted every day is a sin of itself, and there are many good organizations often working at their own expense to collect this food before it hits the dumpster, and redistribute it to people that need to eat. There is nothing wrong with this food, and most often it is either on, or near to, its annotated expiry date - and certainly before its end of life.

We are talking about all food, that has an expiry date, in all shops. What can be done about this?

You are encouraged to contact one the of organizations that are working on this issue and ask how you can contribute. Some people dish out at soup kitchen. Some people fetch and carry during the week and some people even sit and crochet scarves for soup kitchen attendees. And of course it costs money to run these operations. You get to decide how you contribute.

Some of the food waste organizations are listed as enterprises on the kandu.community. You can join their volunteer programs (extremely enlightening to food waste), or you could be generous enough to donate to them for the food miles they gather, intercepting and redistributing near-expiry food to the homeless. It's not a small job for these social heroes, so a big thank you to them for their contributions to our humanity.

And above this, those who are keen to do even more, can actually stem the waste from within. Management of our habits, from the way we spend, to the way we consume, will help to reduce waste in our areas, but this is not really an understanding that can be recreated by storytelling, but one that can only ever be experienced as a volunteer to one of these food waste services.
