what's so good about naturally grown?

Local Deliveries for reduced carbon emissions

Problem or Opportunity? The problem: I want butternut, cauliflower and radish from my local farmers, but they are situated on three different farms fairly far out of town, and if I buy them, the cost of delivery would match the cost of the produce, making it unaffordable. This is a real problem, mostly due to buying small quantities from multiple locations.

Solution: Suggest to the contributors that they might choose a central meeting place to either make a straight delivery together with you, where you can all meet at a central drop zone. Or of course you might even suggest that they endeavor to hold a public food market at this location to sell other produce while delivering your sale.

Solution: Suggest to other customers in your area that together a local group of buyers may be formed. Choose some central location to deliver to, and the group of buyers can then contribute toward the delivery vehicle together, effectively reducing the delivery cost, and the vehicle does a full circuit to collect everything and deliver together.

Solution: Support local delivery enterprises. There are numerous 'vegbox' schemes and 'organic' delivery services taking place all over the country, and if there were not, now would be a good time to start. These enterprises can be very different from each other, but they seem to follow a similar pattern. They source all of the locally grown produce, and offer a wide variety to their community, on a shopping cart where interested customers can buy together, only to have it packed and delivered to door.

These services work hard to match customer expectation, and altho being a 'middleman' themselves, their service remains quintessential to reducing the amount of time between harvest and consumption, and reducing the food miles that accumulate along the way. Choose a service that is committed to quality, and make sure that they are indeed distributing as organic as possible, and encourage them to sign up here and be known to other interested parties.

All of these solutions require discussion on the kandu connect, and discovery of solutions that may be sourced closer to home. While we may opensource the production of quality food, the efficiency of our delivery systems must be worked out with great attention to the concept of food miles. We should always endeavor to burn less fossil fuels in every transaction.

Please see if you can find a local delivery service for your area location. If there is one there, please give them a try and let us know about your experience. If there is not, then you are free to make an improvement.
